Join SocialVentures and the Ohio Small Business Development Center at Columbus State (SBDC), for the first Columbus Funds event. This new event series is designed to help social entrepreneurs and small business owners navigate the complex world of funding. From leveraging debt to build your credit and small business loans to equity options, this event is designed to help both for-profit and non-profit start-up entrepreneurs fully understand the risks and benefits of all funding sources available today.
The cost to attend is $10 per person. Registration is required as space is limited. Light refreshments will be provided.

- Jerome W. Jones is a Business Consultant with The Small Business Development Center at Columbus State Community College and Managing Member of The Danash Group, LLC. Jerome will provide a broad overview of the various types of funding typically available to small businesses, and the pros and cons of each.
- Allen Proctor, President and CEO, SocialVentures, will share information about Social Ventures Fund, a fund that is managed by SocialVentures and invests in social enterprises that are profitable and looking for capital to grow. Allen will provide an overview of how the fund works. Social Ventures Fund recently announced its first investment of $50,000 in The Roosevelt Coffeehouse/Roosevelt Coffee Roasters. Allen will also discuss Kiva Columbus. Kiva helps financially excluded entrepreneurs fund their dreams by providing access to 0% interest capital and a community of 1.6 million supportive lenders.
- Andre Gibson is the Regional Director Business Development for Sycamore Commercial Lending. As Regional Director Business Development, Andre is responsible for building referral relationships with key banking and community partners in Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, and Illinois. The goal of these relationships is to create loan opportunities for minority, women, and veteran owned businesses using the SBA 7 (a) term loan product. Before joining CRF, Gibson founded Sycamore Commercial Lending, a commercial loan brokerage company that also catered to underserved communities and owners. Gibson earned his MBA from Anderson University, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. Gibson started his career in retail banking as a manager trainee and moved into regional management then on to commercial lending. “Helping underserved communities in the commercial lending space is truly a passion for me.”
- Michael Bowers (Moderator) is a Certified Business Advisor and Director of the Ohio Small Business Development Center at Columbus State Community College 13 of which were spent with the SBDC network.
